Overview & Creation

Far in the East, if one stops to listen, the wind will speak to them. Celestial words, nebulous and arcane, whispered by the winds of the dunes. Some stay to study the whispered words, and some among those gain a higher understanding, and some gain great power. The stories that are whispered tell of great works of astrological power, spells long forgotten by men, and a lonely intelligence dwelling in the sand. Those that talk to this intelligence can satisfy its lack of company, and forge a bond. To be an emissary of the Sand is to never be alone, and brings no small measure of might.

Quirks

1. You feel extreme unease while looking at large bodies of water.
2. You blink faster and more often than most would think possible.
3. Felines are drawn to you, but rarely approach.
4. Stepping onto stone feels strange, as if you had lost your balance momentarily.
5. Your mouth is constantly dry and gritty.
6. Your skin is coated in a light layer of dust or sand.
7. You sometimes forget that you need to drink water to live.
8. You feel unsettled when you cannot hear the wind or see the sun.
9. Sometimes on the horizon, you see shimmering mirages that do not exist.
10. When you look at the stars, you sometimes long to walk among them.

Class Features

Sandlearned Whispers

At level 1 you have learned and expanded your knowledge by listening to the Sands. You learn the Celestial and Primordial languages, and gain proficiency in either the Arcana or History skill.

Wreathed in Sand

At level 6, you gain the ability to exude sand from your skin in whirling streams that swirl around you. The streams last for 1 minute and cause all ranged attacks to hit you to be rolled with disadvantage. You gain the ability to do this again after a Long Rest.

Cloak of Sand

At level 10, you create a thin layer of sand that extends from you 10ft in all directions. As an action, you can extend this layer an additional 5ft. You may do this a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier. You regain all expended uses after a Long Rest. If you are standing in natural sand, this layer is automatically extended to 30ft. When standing in The Breathing Sands, the layer is automatically extended to 60ft. On your turn, you may make a melee attack against any enemy that is standing in the affected area. You are proficient with this attack, and its damage is 1d8. You may also cast a spell on any target within the radius. If it is a spell attack, you roll with advantage. If it requires a saving throw, the target rolls with disadvantage.

Sand Form

At level 14, your physical form has become so attuned to The Sand that you can alter your composition to that of sand for brief periods of time. As a bonus action, you can cause your body to turn into a swiftly undulating mass of semisolid sand. Any clothes you were wearing are absorbed into your new form, and magic items and weapons can still be used, but not armor. While in this form, you can squeeze through gaps as small as 1 inch. Your AC becomes 17+Dexterity Modifier, and you gain resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage. You also gain immunity to poison damage. If you are touched by water while in this form, you take 10d4 force damage. This form lasts for 2 minutes and you regain the ability to use it after a Long Rest.
